Watermead Challenge 2010

Watermead Challenge 2010 was our first sponsored charity run and walk at Watermead Country Park near Syston. Runners and walkers of all abilities were invited to join this community event. One hundred and eighty entrants took part on the evening of Wednesday 14th July. After a torrential downpour in the afternoon the clouds parted and the race conditions over five and three miles on flat, tarmac surfaced tracks were perfect.
Almost £1400 was raised for charitable causes with proceeds going to the Richard Engelgardt Trust Fund, St John Ambulance and local to Syston and Birstall youth groups and clubs. Richard is now wheelchair bound following an injury sustained playing for Birstall Rugby Club at the start of the 2009/10 season.
Many thanks to all who took part,to those who helped on the day and advised in advance, and to the Rangers of Watermead Country Park for permitting the event to take place. We hope to make this an annual event.
